Common Issues

A customer did not receive a coupon#

Symptom: the trigger is enabled but no coupon or email arrived.

Cause: most often an abuse prevention limit, a guest account, or the email never left the server.

  1. Check Marketing > Coupons for a coupon with the customer’s email under Allowed emails. If it exists, the problem is email delivery; see the next issue.
  2. If no coupon exists, check the trigger requirements: post-purchase, review, cart and referral rewards need a registered customer; post-purchase needs status Processing or Completed.
  3. Open WooCommerce > SmartCouponX > Advanced. A customer who already holds Max Coupons Per User unused coupons, or who received the same trigger within the Coupon Cooldown Hours, is skipped. Lower the limits or wait.
  4. Enable Debug Mode and look at WooCommerce > Status > Logs, source smartcouponx, for error lines such as Coupon creation failed.

Coupons are created but the emails never arrive#

Symptom: the coupon shows in Marketing > Coupons and on My Account, but the inbox is empty.

Cause: the host’s PHP mail is blocked or lands in spam.

  1. Enable Debug Mode, trigger a coupon and confirm the log says Coupon email sent. If it says Failed to send, PHP mail is disabled on the server.
  2. Install an SMTP plugin and connect it to a mail service.
  3. Set From Email Address on the Email tab to an address on a domain that service is authorised to send from.
  4. Send a test from the SMTP plugin, then trigger a coupon again.

My Account > Referrals shows “Page not found”#

Symptom: the Referrals menu item is there but clicking it gives a 404.

Cause: the rewrite rules were not refreshed after activation (common when the plugin was activated by WP-CLI or on a staging copy).

  1. Go to Settings > Permalinks.
  2. Click Save Changes without changing anything.
  3. Reload the Referrals page.

The referrer was not rewarded#

Symptom: a friend ordered through the link but the referral list is empty or shows Pending / Blocked by limits.

Cause: one of the referral conditions was not met.

  1. The buyer must be logged in (guest orders are not matched) and must not have any earlier pending, on-hold, processing or completed order.
  2. The order must reach Processing or Completed. Orders still On hold are not rewarded yet.
  3. The buyer must have opened the link within the last 30 days in the same browser (the cookie is per browser).
  4. Blocked by limits means the referrer hit the cooldown or the unused-coupon cap on the Advanced tab; Not rewarded means the coupon could not be created, so check the log.
  5. Check the Referral Limit on the Referral tab; referrers at the limit receive no further coupons.

The SCX Analytics page shows a database error#

Symptom: a WordPress database error mentioning JSON_EXTRACT or JSON_UNQUOTE.

Cause: the database server is older than MySQL 5.7 or MariaDB 10.2.

  1. Check the database version under WooCommerce > Status > Database.
  2. Ask your host to upgrade MySQL or MariaDB. Coupons continue to work in the meantime.

Birthday coupons go out late or not at all#

Symptom: customers with a birthday today receive nothing, or the email arrives a day later.

Cause: WP-Cron only runs when someone visits the site, or the birthday meta is empty or in a format PHP cannot parse.

  1. Check Tools > Scheduled Actions or a cron plugin for the smartcouponx_daily_maintenance event.
  2. Set up a server cron job that requests https://your-store.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron every hour and define DISABLE_WP_CRON as true in wp-config.php.
  3. Confirm the user’s birthday meta is stored as a date such as 1990-05-21.
  4. Run wp cron event run smartcouponx_daily_maintenance to process today’s birthdays immediately.

Updates are not offered#

Symptom: a newer version exists on technoleet.dev but Dashboard > Updates does not list it.

Cause: the license is inactive, expired or has not been re-checked.

  1. Open WooCommerce > SCX License and confirm the status is Active and Automatic Update is Enabled.
  2. Click Check License Status Now.
  3. If the license has expired, renew it on technoleet.dev, then check again.
  4. Go to Dashboard > Updates and click Check Again.
