Targeting Rules
The cart value and cart item triggers are the two places where you define rules instead of a single amount. Both are tables on the Triggers tab with an Add Trigger button and a Remove button per row. Each row has its own Discount Amount and Discount Type.
Cart value rules#
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Min Cart Value | The cart total (after discounts, before shipping, in your store currency) must be at least this amount. |
| Max Cart Value | The cart total must be at most this amount. 0 means no upper limit. |
| Discount Amount / Type | The coupon the customer receives. |
Example: a rule with Min 100, Max 0, Amount 10, Type Percentage rewards every logged-in customer the first time their cart reaches 100. The coupon’s minimum spend is set to 100 so it can only be used on a cart that still qualifies.
Cart item rules and conditions#
Click Add Condition inside a row to add one or more conditions. All conditions in a row must be true at the same time.
| Condition | Field | Matches when |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Product ID | The product (or one of its variations) is in the cart. |
| Category | Category ID | At least one cart item belongs to this product category. |
| Quantity | Min Quantity | The total quantity of all cart items is at least this number. |
| Bundled Products | Product IDs (comma separated) | Every listed product is in the cart at the same time. |
Find product IDs by hovering a product under Products > All Products and category IDs under Products > Categories (the tag_ID in the edit link).
Example: Category 15 plus Quantity 3 rewards a customer when they have three or more items and at least one of them is in category 15.
Rules to remember#
- Cart triggers only work for logged-in customers, because the coupon must be locked to an email address.
- Each rule rewards each customer once, ever. Editing a rule’s amount does not reset this; remove the rule and add a new one if you want customers to qualify again.
- The abuse prevention limits apply, including the per-IP daily limit.
- Email restriction on every coupon is the other targeting rule you get for free: the coupon only works for the recipient’s email address.
