Reviewer Location

What shoppers see#

When the feature is on, the free plugin’s review form gains a checkbox above the submit button: Share my location (city & country) with this review. It is unticked by default.

  1. The reviewer ticks the box.
  2. Their browser asks for permission to read the device’s approximate position.
  3. The browser sends the coordinates to BigDataCloud’s reverse-geocoding endpoint and receives a city and a country.
  4. The form shows Location detected: City, Country under the checkbox, and the two values ride along with the normal review submission.

If the reviewer declines the permission or the lookup fails, the form shows Could not detect location. You can still submit your review. and the review is submitted without a location. Unticking the box clears the detected values.

After the review is approved, the review card shows City, Country with a pin icon next to the reviewer’s name and date. The location also appears wherever else the review is printed (for example WooCommerce’s own review template, if a theme uses it).

What is stored#

Only the city and country strings are saved, as comment meta (revnextwoopro_location) on the review. The coordinates are never sent to your server and are not stored anywhere. Reviews without consent carry no location at all.

Privacy and the BigDataCloud service#

The lookup is made from the reviewer’s browser to https://api.bigdatacloud.net/data/reverse-geocode-client. No API key is required and your server never calls BigDataCloud. See BigDataCloud’s terms and privacy policy.

Because location is personal data, mention the feature in your privacy policy. Pro adds suggested wording under Settings > Privacy > Policy Guide (section Review Next Pro), and registers a personal-data exporter and eraser so Tools > Export Personal Data and Tools > Erase Personal Data cover stored locations. See Privacy & Personal Data.

How to disable it#

  1. Go to Review Dashboard > Pro Settings.
  2. Untick Reviewer location.
  3. Click Save Changes.

The checkbox disappears from the review form and locations already saved on older reviews are no longer displayed (they stay in the database until you erase them, uninstall Pro or run the eraser).

Developers can also switch it off with the revnextwoopro_location_enabled filter.

Pro does not show its location next to reviews that already carry the free plugin’s older reviewer_city / reviewer_country meta, so a review never shows two locations.
