Role Matrix

The Role matrix tab is a grid of every audited ability against every role that exists on the site.

CellMeaning
PassThe permission check returned true for this role.
DenyIt returned false.
InconclusiveThe check threw, returned an error, timed out, tried to run an ability, or depends on the input. Hover the cell for the reason, or open the detail panel.
n/aThe role does not exist on this site.

Roles are checked least privileged first: Anonymous, Subscriber, Contributor, Author, Editor, Shop manager, Administrator. Shop manager only appears when WooCommerce (or another plugin) has registered it. Roles that are missing from the site are listed under the legend as “Not on this site, so not checked”.

Each row also shows the ability’s annotations (Read-only, Destructive, Idempotent, or “Unannotated”), so you can spot a destructive ability with a Pass in a low-privilege column at a glance.

A row that is Deny or Inconclusive for every role, including Administrator, usually means the permission check depends on the input (for example a post ID) rather than on the role. That is not necessarily a problem, but it is worth reading the callback.
