Scheduled Audits
Ability Auditor can audit your site without you remembering to.
Daily audit#
- On by default. Turn it off on the Settings tab.
- Uses a WP-Cron event named
abau_scheduled_audit, first scheduled one hour after activation (or after the setting is turned on), then daily. - The Settings tab shows the next run time.
- The audit is saved to History with the trigger Daily.
Audit after plugin changes#
- On by default. Turn it off on the Settings tab.
- When a plugin is installed or updated, one audit is scheduled 60 seconds later. Theme and translation updates do not trigger it.
- Several changes in a row add only one event, so updating ten plugins at once leads to one audit.
- The delay is deliberate: the request that performs an update still has the old plugin code loaded, and a newly installed plugin is not active yet, so auditing immediately would give the wrong answer.
- Saved to History with the trigger After update.
No overlap#
A short lock (at most 10 minutes) stops two automatic audits from running at the same time. If the lock is held, the second run is skipped.
Timing#
WP-Cron only runs when the site receives a request. On a quiet site the daily audit may run later than shown. For exact timing, either call wp-cron.php from a real cron job, or disable WP-Cron and run wp ability-audit run on your own schedule.
Deactivation and uninstall#
- Deactivating the plugin removes the scheduled events. History and settings stay.
- Deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen removes the history table, options, lock, scheduled events and license state, on every site of a multisite network.
