Display rules

Each rule in detail: what it checks, where it is enforced, and what to watch for.

RuleChoicesChecked whereNotes
Visibility (Show to)Everyone / Logged-in users / Logged-out visitorsServer, when the page is renderedA hidden block is removed from the HTML entirely. “Logged-in” means any WordPress user with a session, including administrators previewing the site.
Roles (Only these roles)Any role on the site: Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Subscriber, plus roles added by other plugins (for example Customer or Shop manager)ServerOnly available with “Logged-in users”. A user needs at least one of the ticked roles. No roles ticked means every logged-in user.
DeviceAll devices / Mobile only (under 768px) / Desktop and tablet only (768px and up)Browser, with CSSThe block markup is sent to everyone and hidden with a media query. Based on viewport width, not on the device type.
Show fromDate and timeServerHidden until this moment in the site’s time zone (Settings → General → Timezone).
Show untilDate and timeServerHidden after this moment in the site’s time zone. Use both fields for a window, or either on its own.

Visibility and roles#

“Logged-in users” and “Logged-out visitors” are opposites, so you will often build a pair of blocks: one for members and one for guests, stacked in the same place. Only one of them is ever delivered to a given visitor.

Roles come straight from WordPress, so anything a membership, LMS or shop plugin adds (Customer, Student, Member, …) appears in the list automatically. If a plugin stores membership levels somewhere other than roles, use the developer filter to check them.

Device#

Mobile means a viewport narrower than 768px; desktop and tablet means 768px and wider. This matches the breakpoint used by the free plugin’s blocks. Because it is CSS:

  • Rotating a tablet or resizing a browser window switches the block on and off live.
  • The block is still in the page source, so do not use the device rule for anything confidential.
  • Page caches are unaffected; the same HTML works for every device.

The free plugin’s own Responsive Visibility toggles (hide on desktop, tablet or mobile) keep working alongside the Pro device rule. If you set both, a block is shown only where neither rule hides it.

Dates#

Dates are compared with the site’s current time, in the site’s time zone, each time the page is rendered. Both fields are optional:

  • Only Show from: the block appears at that moment and stays.
  • Only Show until: the block is visible now and disappears at that moment.
  • Both: a window. Make sure “Show until” is later than “Show from”, or the block will never be shown.

Check Settings → General → Timezone before scheduling. If your site is set to UTC but you think in local time, a promo planned for 9:00 may go live hours early or late.
