Updates
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Update window | Every day, 02:00 to 05:00 (site time zone) | When scheduled updates may start |
| Cooldown | 2 days | A release newer than this is flagged as a risk |
| Most runs per window | 10 | The hourly scheduler starts at most one update per run |
| Protect updates started elsewhere | On | Adds a snapshot and a check to updates from the Plugins screen, bulk updates, WP-CLI, other tools and background auto-updates. It never blocks an update |
| Run auto-updates through Update Doctor | Off | When on, WordPress’s own auto-update is switched off for items whose policy is auto, and Update Doctor updates them itself with the full checks |
Each plugin and theme has a policy: auto (updated on schedule inside your window), approve (the default: you start it yourself, and an agent that asks gets a proposal), hold (skipped, optionally until a date or for one version) and never (never updated by Update Doctor, even when you ask).
